On the pool

"There were people at the pool. And I asked, why the pool?
They said, 'The pool's where it's at,' and I said,
'But we're at the pool! That's where we're at!'" - George Tao

The pool, more than being a place for swimming and practicing swimming is more a place for social activity. I just found that interesting.
I mean sometimes, we people (usually children) do things in the pool -- we splash, we dive, we shoot each other with water guns and have pool fights; but all that is lost once we get older. After that, the pool is not as much a place for swimming or diving or having fun but more so just for socializing and vibing.

Like think of adult "pool parties." Those aren't where adults get in the pool and are having fun splashing around -- that'd be super weird. Rather, they're where adults get together, maybe drink a few drinks, but overall just admire the pool and the atmosphere rather than use the pool.

As a result, a pool is more a symbol than an actual tool. It is used (rarely), but it's more of something you have rather than something you use despite the high maintenance that pools require.
