Foolproof (A Review)

Foolproof, by Sander van der Linden, is a good book.

I initially picked it up at the library since I wanted to read some "new" science books. This book was published at the beginning of 2023, so it holds quite a lot of relevance to modern day activities (in contrast to a similar book that was written in 2014).

This book deals with misinformation and how individuals can protect themselves from the spread of it. I learned lots of information from it and will give it a 9/10 (wow it seems like everything scores so high on my bar). The book is a slog to get through (it took me ~2mo) but is very informative like every non-fiction book and provides great insights into misinformation today.

Unfortunately, the information is all based in scientific research which is while not bad, incredibly slow. Although I can now inoculate/vaccinate individuals from misinformation viruses, I am effortless in the face of a massive media campaign (like the ones done by Russia).

Anyways good book. If you want the abbreviated versions or want to protect yourself from fake news, play Harmony Square or Bad News (~20 min each but can be 10 min if you speedrun them).
