April 2025
There's an old saying that goes, "April showers bring may flowers." Unfortunately, by my tally, it rained <2 times this April where I live, which is slightly sad considering may flowers may never come to fruition.
Anyways, in other news, on the academic front, I have adopted IFHTP (I F^&ing Hate This Place) as something I now say semi-frequently during school. Grades are fine and the like (though I might've not been adequately prepared for my most recent Physics test), but there's just an urge to do more than what is taught in school. Especially since some classrooms that I'm in don't have windows.
If my recent posts say anything, you can infer that I have what's known as *senioritis -- just that general feeling of being done with school and of looking for something better to do.
Anyways, here's some other things I've done this April (since it's too hard to write, I'll list):
- Finished reading Nightwork, a book on the pranks at MIT. Great book as it combines three great things -- a book, something about MIT, a place where cool people are, and pranks/hacking; things that make people think. This is also where I got the IFHTP acronym from. I also finished this book in <7 days which I'm proud of (granted, it is short, there are lots of pictures, and margins are small, but that shouldn't take away from me finishing this book).
- Had a jazz concert :). I don't think my playing was up to spec but I'm glad I could put this on.
- Finished up various requirements to become an Eagle Scout. As of now, my BOR is scheduled so the finish line is now most clearly in sight.
- Started a repo on robotics documentation. Stay tuned for my thoughts on teaching and on high school robotics but for now at least, I can leave something behind to my team that hopefully they'll improve on that'll carry them forward.
- Committed to a college....somewhere.
- Submitted 1 scholarship application :). It's not a lot, but it's a start.
- Took Caltrain, and went to the Menlo Park Chess Club. Really cool place, really cool people, and I had a lot of fun socializing and laying it down on the 64 squares. Also, on Caltrain, it seems that the opening sample of Pat Metheny's The Way Up comes from a Caltrain arriving -- the sounds to me at least are eerily similar.
- Made some kimchi :). I've never had kimchi so maybe I've made a biohazard, but it tastes good and is cool so that's cool.
- Various odds and ends.
We'll see how many flowers I can count this May.
