Another Seasonal Theme
As of today, half of 2025 is over. Or more when you're reading. But currently, it is the morning of July 1st where I am, and it's crazy to think that half of 2025 is over.
I think when I look back on 2025 later in life, I'll recognize three pretty distinct phases -- the first few months where I finished high school, the next few where I did some stuff, and the final few when I started college and hopefully started going outside more.
But today's not too much for reflection1. It's on moving forwards, doing stuff; that's why my seasonal goal (Jul-Sept) will be "make". I think after that it'll be "wander" since I'll be in school and I'll just be figuring things out but whatever. Let's talk about making.
What does it even mean for my new seasonal goal to be "make"? I currently have no clue but I guess I'll figure it out. In the end however, I hope to have made stuff; repositories with code that does stuff, physical products that I can feel and see, maybe ideas or more blog posts for people (hopefully) to read. Maybe making will mean learning how to cook better and being able to make food look and taste good; maybe making will mean finally doing something with the arduino and little joystick on my desk; maybe making will mean using the cutting board that I just recently got; maybe making will simply mean I try to make stuff every day.
So I venture onwards, in the quest of making things. I guess I'll track what I make each day for 3 months and go from there.
Note to self: Other possible seasonal goals include:
- Outside
- Do
- Wander
I think it's a good idea to reflect on how much more I "coded" since my seasonal theme was "code" during April-June. My github green square box chart doesn't really say much -- coding seems to be constant between Apr-Jun and Jan-March. Importantly however, I did a lot of FRC coding (work coding?) between Jan-Mar so it's cool that I somewhat kept the momentum going. Otherwise, it seems that instead of coding/pushing every day, there are stretches where I be coding and stretches where I ain't. I take things project by project so that makes sense; but I hope to eventually have that thing one day 90% green (outside of work commits). To anyone else also trying to code, I recommend you try coding for a little bit every day and see how it goes. It'll be great. If you follow through. (Not me)↩
